Norwegian publishers in focus

at London Art Book Fair

Scandinavia is the focus of this year’s London Art Book Fair, hosted by Whitechapel Gallery. Seven exhibitors from Norway will attend, showcasing artist’s books and zines on everything from photography to art and fashion.

The London Art Book Fair is free and open to the public, and take pride in presenting the best in international art publishing. Returning to Whitechapel Gallery for its seveth year, the 2015 fair sees over 90 independent publisers and presses exhibiting their work, from 10-13 September. There will also be an extensive programme alongside the fair, with talks, events and panels.

A Scandinavian Photography talk is also scheduled, which is chaired by folks from Melk Gallery in Oslo (in association with the new book from Black Dog Publishing). The event can be found here and will be held on 12 September.

Publishers from Norway include:

  • Torpedo Bookshop & Publishing: Devoted to the promotion and production of artists’ books, art theory and critical readers in contemporary art. Based in Oslo.
  • Teknisk Industri AS: Formed in Oslo in 1917 –  publishing art books since 2007
  • Kurt Johannesson: Focus on performance, artist’s books and installations
  • Spriten Forlag: Publishing house connected to Spriten Kunsthall in Skien
  • Multipress Forlag: Non-profit publishing house, focusing on photography
  • Multinational Enterprises: Independent Norwegian publisher Sveinn Fannar Johannsson, focus on publishing and collecting artist’s books
  • ROV Publication Series: Features works from Norwegian and international visual artists
