Norwegian pop artists iris and SKAAR team up for a dark magic dancefloor duet in voodoo voodoo.
“the song ‘voodoo voodoo is another side of me which I haven’t really shown before,” iris explains. She was inspired by the style and production of Banks and Lorde and enlisted friend (and fellow Norwegian songwriter) Hilde Skaar, aka SKAAR, to make a “witchy” duet, trading verses, melodies and stunning vocals. It really is a duet in the truest sense, something iris and SKAAR were keen to achieve while working on the lyrics together, as “no one makes duets anymore!”
“I tapped into my demonic alter ego and summoned my sidekick SKAAR to conjure up some dark magic,” says iris of the track, which is produced with Askjell Solstrand. Of the recording of the track, iris notes: “who would have thought that a cabin trip in the calm Norwegian countryside would lead to an actual duet?”
iris has been one of the most talked about Scandinavian song writers for some time now, but after a turbulent 2020, 25-year-old Norwegian Vilde Iris Hartveit Kolltveit – best known to the world as iris – is ready to let the world hear her debut album love and other disasters and brand new sides of her musical persona, previously hidden.
Voodoo voodoo is out 29th January via GEMS.
