Dagny – ‘the songbird from the North’

at The Courtyard Theatre, London

There is no shortage of praise on one of Norway’s new favorite, Dagny. After her big break through last year, things has only gone one way for the 26 year old from Tromsø; upwards.

Her first single, Backbeat has currently 21 million streams on Spotify, and it has since its release in late 2015 landed on multiple ‘Artists to Watch’ lists from Apple, Spotify and Tidal.

Dagny has performed on several festivals since her breakthrough; Isle of White Festival, Belladrum, Cornbury, Kopparberg Urban Forest Festival, just to mention some. The magazine NME named her one of “The Hottest Brand New Acts At Oslo’s Icy By:Larm Festival” earlier this year, adding that Dagny “provides a masterclass in shimmering Scandinavian pop”. Dagny has already reached far, a good example being handpicked to open for legendary artists such as Sir Elton John and Sting.

Her latest single ‘Fool’s Gold’ featuring the American BØRNS bodes well for great things to come. Up next for the London-based artist is a U.S takeover with the release of her EP Ultraviolet in September. The EP will feature new material that Dagny recorded with a dream team of collaborators including Tommy English (Børns, Tigertown, Ladyhawke), Dave Bassett (Elle King, Fitz and the Tantrums), Mattman & Robin (Tove Lo, Ellie Goulding, Taylor Swift) and Justin Tranter (Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, The Knocks, KYGO), as well as Backbeat and Fool’s Gold.

But before crossing the Atlantic, she’s performing for a full house at Courtyard Theatre in London on 31 August. Needless to say, this is an artist it’s worth keeping an eye on this fall.
