Exploring the music of the Baroque: Bjarte Eike & Jon Balke

at LSO St. Luke's

Baroque violinist Bjarte Eike and jazz pianist and composer Jon Balke are two of Norway’s most open-minded and exciting artists. On 7 January, they head to London to take part in London’s brand new festival, Baroque at the Edge.

Known for his Alehouse Sessions, exploring 17th century music from the pubs and alehouses in England, Bjarte Eike pushes boundaries in classical music. Jon Balke is the founder of the innovative Magnetic North Orchestra and keeps developing his own unique projects. On 7 January, they will present their new collaboration project in Jerwood Hall at LSO St. Luke’s in London.

The concert is part of Baroque at the Edge, a new festival concept from the creators of the highly successful London Festival of Baroque Music – Artistic Director Lindsay Kemp and Manager Lucy Bending. Inviting leading musicians from backgrounds ranging from classical to world, jazz and folk, Baroque at Edge explores the music of the Baroque from another perspective – with no rules, no programme notes and no lectures.
